
MEET THE CANDIDATE
CHRISTINE'S STORY

A dedicated public servant and community leader, First Selectperson Christine Vitale was first elected to the Board of Selectmen in 2023. She was designated to serve as Acting First Selectman on June 30, 2025 following the hospitalization and unexpected death of First Selectman Bill Gerber. She has served as the First Selectperson since her appointment on August 25, 2025. Christine also served as the Board of Selectman’s liaison to the Water Pollution Control Authority December 2023-November 2025 and currently co-chairs the Fairfield CARES Community Coalition.
Christine’s involvement in local government began when she became the Board of Education representative for her children’s school, Dwight Elementary School. An active PTA member, Christine has served as Vice President of Leadership for the PTA Council, President and Treasurer of the Fairfield Ludlowe High School PTA, and President of the Roger Ludlowe Middle School PTA, as well as Secretary and Treasurer of the Special Education PTA. She has also served as a Girl Scout Leader, on the Executive Board of the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County, and as a founding member of 21 Strong, an organization that supports and celebrates individuals with Down syndrome.
Prior to being elected to the Board of Selectmen, Christine was a member of the Fairfield Board of Education from 2017-2023 and served as its Chair from 2018-2022. During her time on the Board of Education, she also served as Fairfield’s representative to the Cooperative Educational Services Representative Council, Secretary of the BOE’s Finance and Budget Committee, liaison to the RTM, PTA Council and Roger Sherman Building Committee and was an active member on the Board’s Facilities Committee.
Christine’s professional background is in administration and project management, with more than a decade of financial responsibility, as well as management consulting and event planning. She is a graduate of Binghamton University with a BA in English and Political Science. She has received several awards for her service, including the Deanna O. Kiernan Award, the Connecticut Association of Schools Volunteer Recognition Award, and the 2005 Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County’s Outstanding Service Award.
A 28-year resident of Fairfield, Christine and her husband Bill are the proud parents of Katherine, Julia, and John, all graduates of Fairfield Public Schools.
